The People Who Power Workato: Ken Ng

People Who Power Workato: Ken Ng

Ken Ng, our Director of Solutions Consulting for APJ, is no stranger to the integration and automation space.

His experience dates back to his days at Oracle, where he served as a Principal Product Manager for Oracle Fusion Middleware. He went on to work at Mulesoft, and—fast forward  several years—joined the Workato family in April of 2021.

His rich experience in the space, coupled with his passion for delivering innovative integration and automation solutions to organizations, has been invaluable to us and to all of the prospects he engages with.

We’re excited to share some of Ken’s wisdom, his experiences before and at Workato, and his personal interests as part of our latest installment of The People Who Power Workato.

1. Let’s start with an easy question: What do you do for fun?

I’m a huge sci-fi and high fantasy fan. Outside of spending time with my family, I’m either reading stories within these genres, playing Dungeons & Dragons, or watching some epic sci-fi series or anime. If you’re also a fan, I’d be more than happy to exchange recommendations on books and shows!

2. Where were you working prior to Workato? And what inspired you to join our team?

I came from MuleSoft and was a “Muley” for 7 years.

As a techie, the first thing that got me excited about Workato was the product. I remember building my first recipe and thinking, “Wow, integration cannot be more sleek than this!” That said, it was the amazing employees I met during my interviews that inspired me to join the team. And, one year down the road, I continue to be amazed by the energy of the team here.

3. Can you tell me a bit more about your role at Workato? What do you typically do day-to-day?

I lead the Solutions Consulting team in the APJ region.

My primary goal is to align with internal stakeholders so that I can equip and empower my team to perform their day-to-day work more effectively. That said, my everyday work can vary quite a bit. On a given day, you can find me meeting with APJ leaders to discuss a go-to-market strategy, walking prospects through ways that Workato can automate their business processes, or being a panelist or presenter at a marketing event—such as a webinar.

4. What excites you about the Workato platform?

I’ve always worked in the integration and automation space, and as a result, I’ve witnessed major technological evolutions in the industry. However, there hasn’t been a point where integration and automation technology can be used by any employee at an enterprise organization—until Workato.

To me, the Workato platform is like building with the Lego Mindstorms platform. Beginners can start by building simple models, but the same platform allows you to build complex models, like a paper plane folding machine.

5. What keeps you fired up about working at Workato (as a company)?

This may sound cliché, but it’s the culture and the people. Nothing excites me more than working with such a diverse team in terms of culture, background, and experience. Moreover, I’ve always thrived in environments where I can learn, and that’s exactly what I’ve found here.
