Genies, Skills & Knowledge Bases — Now Available Across the Workspace

Genies, Skills, and Knowledge Bases are no longer confined to a single project. Builders can assemble Genies from any asset across the entire workspace — eliminating duplication and the copy-paste workarounds that slowed teams down.

  • Cross-Project Skills & KBs — Add Skills and attach Knowledge Bases from any project in the workspace to power Genies wherever they live.
  • Cross-Project Events & Tasks — Recipes can send app events to and assign tasks to Genies across different projects, with no project boundary restrictions.
  • Cross-Project Knowledge Writes — Knowledge recipes can store data to KBs living in other projects, keeping a single source of truth across the workspace.
  • Move Assets Freely — Skills, KBs, and Genies can be moved between projects without breaking any existing links.

Native Channel Support for Genies — Slack

Genies can operate natively in Slack channels — not just DMs. Deploy Genies for IT help desks, HR support, and project assistance directly inside the channels where teams already work.

  • Two Channel Modes — Help Desk Mode responds to every message in selected channels; On-Mention Mode responds only when @mentioned, giving builders the right behavior per use case.
  • Full Thread Context & User Attribution — Genies see the entire thread, know who said what, and auto-summarize long threads to stay in context.
  • Authenticated Actions In-Channel — Workato Identity login via ephemeral messages and user-validated confirmation modals ensure the right person approves every action.
  • Builder-Controlled Channel Scope — Builders select exactly which Slack channels a Genie responds in, with a clear error shown if a Genie is added to a non-configured channel.
  • Safe by Design — Multi-Genie loop protection, rate limits, race-condition handling, and streaming progress updates keep interactions reliable and transparent.

Expanded LLM models available in Agent Studio

Builders have full visibility and control over which LLM model powers their Genies in Agent Studio, with support for versioned models across Anthropic and OpenAI.

  • Model selection — Choose specific versioned models across Anthropic (Sonnet 4.x) and OpenAI (GPT-5.x) directly in Agent Studio.
  • Latest model access — Take advantage of the newest model releases as they become available from leading providers.
  • Model audit logs — Track LLM model version changes and timestamps for each Genie, making it easier to correlate behavioral differences and troubleshoot.
  • Auto-migration for deprecations — When LLM providers sunset older models, Genies automatically upgrade to a recommended replacement, preventing service disruption.

Upcoming auto-migration — April 14, 2026: Claude Sonnet 3.7 reaches end-of-life and all Genies still using it will automatically migrate to Sonnet 4.6. Rollback will not be available. Builders can upgrade early using the new model selection dropdown — testing in advance is recommended to ensure expected behavior.

Agent Orchestration is Now Available

Agent Orchestration allows builders to delegate tasks to Genies directly within recipes. When a recipe assigns a task to a Genie, the Genie completes the work and returns its response back to the recipe, which then continues execution with that data. To use this feature, add the "Assign a task to a Genie" action in recipes or skills, specifying the goal, input data, and an optional conversation ID for context chaining.

This capability accelerates the creation of sophisticated workflows, including:

  • Autonomous Task Processing: Embed Genies in recipes to handle complex tasks such as invoice-PO reconciliation, contract processing, and deal desk validations.
  • Programmatic Genie Access: Perform tasks with Genies through MCP or API endpoints.
  • Testing and Evaluation: Run evaluation scenarios against existing Genies and compare their outputs to expected results for quality assurance.

Important Notes:

  • Tasks can only be assigned to Genies that don't have any skills with end-user connections or skill confirmations.
  • Genies must reside in the same project as the parent recipe or skill.

New Granular RBAC Permission Settings for Conversation History and Test Mode

Agent Studio now supports granular RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) settings for Conversation History and Test Mode. Admins can precisely control which roles have access to sensitive chat records and Genie test queries, helping protect personal and organizational data.

Key details:

  • Configurable access to Conversation History, which may contain sensitive user or organizational information.
  • Ability to limit access to Test Mode, which allows Builders to query Genies and retrieve data from connected Knowledge Bases.
  • Existing customers’ permissions have been migrated; no action needed unless further customization is desired. New customers must manually grant access. By default, roles do not have access.

Updated RBAC settings are available on the Workspace Admin page under Collaborator Roles.
