Introducing the second-place winner of the Workato x IMDA National Developer Challenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hailing from one of the world’s largest lessors of shipping containers, Seaco<\/a>, five talented technologists joined the Workato x IMDA National Developer Challenge<\/a> asking a simple yet profound question: \u201cWhat if frontline depot staff could talk to a system, and it just works?\u201d This led them on a journey to transform ground-level logistics with cutting-edge automation, integration and AI, bringing voice, vision, and intelligence into depot operations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their solution – GateMind <\/strong>and MapMind <\/strong>– reimagines the process of inspecting containers at a depot with integrated AI-driven, voice-enabled orchestration, and is thoughtfully designed to be accessible and inclusive to all workers. An AI agent even automates the documentation process by reading and triaging image-based damage assessments for containers. This trailblazing innovation earned Seaco a coveted second place and has the potential to transform not just logistics, but industries far and wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steering Away From Costly Delays<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nagendran, Bandana, Ramya, Rajat, and Cheng Yi incubated their revolutionary idea under Seaco\u2019s DevHack program, an internal IT experiment by their visionary CIO Damian Leach. Spotting the team\u2019s potential \u201cto make waves in enterprise IT\u201d. Damian coached, mentored and motivated them to turn their idea into a reality – a working prototype for the National Developer Challenge. Team Nauticodes was born from this grassroots initiative. They first zoned in on the pain points, to fully understand the implications on the business and the people involved.<\/p>\n\n\n

\r\n\t\tWith 366 third-party depots across 186 ports in 49 countries, English is often not the first language for frontline depot staff. This means things can get lost in translation, and several people must get involved to manually update our ERP backend from the requests they receive from Depot Operators. This takes time to review and clear approvals for the repairs, while idle containers drive up storage costs. <\/div>\r\n\t

\r\n\t\tWe also incur storage fees and more when there is a delay in estimating repairs after we inspect damage, instead of immediately settling this as soon as the gate-in process occurs at each depot. Frontline staff snap lots of photos during their inspections, but these must be tediously mapped manually before we can categorize, evaluate and estimate repair cost accurately. Then we need to decide who pays for the repair and if it’s fair wear or needs to be covered by insurance. Some repairs may escape manual detection, causing costs to be inflated by delays. <\/div>\r\n\t

Setting Sail with GateMind and MapMind<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Like all challenge participants, Team Nauticodes had full access to Workato\u2019s Enterprise Orchestration<\/a> capabilities, with powerful AI features like AI by Workato<\/a>. They made full use of it to build GateMind and MapMind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur solution is both intelligent and inclusive to all workers,\u201d emphasized Bandana, citing a UN DESA<\/a> report on how the lack of assistive technology limits 80% of working-age disabled persons from accessing jobs and realizing their full potential. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\r\n\t\tIt\u2019s critical that in the Age of AI organizations can experiment fast and adapt. The Workato x IMDA National Developer Challenge enables me to encourage grassroots innovation from the ground up at Seaco. I am so incredibly proud of the DevHack team who came up with the concept and spent hours of personal time to develop the solution. We had several dry run pitch sessions in the office leading up to the Demo Day. The team overcame nerves and did a fantastic job and will certainly remember and grow from the experience.rnrnAlso, Workato\u2019s pre-built connectors to core systems like SAP, Google, Microsoft, enabled us to build and orchestrate a seamless end user experience. Pre-built connectors to SAP allowed us to extract data and write into multiple tables, to build our solution in two weeks as opposed to taking months to develop connectors from scratch. <\/div>\r\n\t

Immense Real-World Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The team not only impressed all five judges with their robust technical demonstration, but also with their staggering business impact projections: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Faster asset turnaround<\/strong>: Containers can be ready for lease 1-3 days earlier<\/strong>, instead of idling in storage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Significant savings<\/strong>: Seaco processes ~220,000 containers through its ports, depots every year. The time these assets are in the depot will greatly reduce and in turn reduce operational costs. The automation also speeds up the decision-making process to put assets on lease faster, generating additional revenue. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Profitability boost<\/strong>: With improved container utilization, the solution has the potential to improve top line revenue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Accurate repair reporting<\/strong>: Repair costs can be estimated in real-time and synced with backend systems to ensure accuracy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Strengthening our partnerships<\/strong>: As the solution enables swift decision making, Depot operators also benefit as the occupancy of the site is reduced – they can move the assets to repair lines without the need to move them to storage areas on site whilst they wait for a repair decision.  This reduces the operating costs and time taken to turn the assets around. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Reduction in manual process<\/strong>: The manual process  \u2013 to review and categorize photos, create emails, decide and then process the repair by entering data into the core transaction platform \u2013 will be fully automated via this solution.  This saves hours of work across multiple teams in Seaco.  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Charting the Course for Scaling with Workato<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    With no time to lose, Team Nauticodes is in the process of testing their solution at Seaco\u2019s depots, but the ripple effects of their innovation are set to extend beyond the logistics and warehousing industry, to sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, insurance, construction, utilities and field services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u201cOur AI agent architecture is secure, scalable <\/strong>and flexible<\/strong>. We used Workato to build it to be modular <\/strong>and industry-agnostic<\/strong>, so that it can work with any system via APIs and benefit any industry that requires a groundbreaking way to integrate voice, image, and AI,\u201d highlighted Damian Leach, Seaco\u2019s CIO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u201cThis is incredible. It could solve an age-old challenge that insurers face with assessing damages immediately on site rather than waiting for a repair shop to advise on claims,\u201d said one judge, before his fellow panelists quickly chimed in to praise the solution\u2019s practicality, scalability, and inclusiveness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The team credits their success to the power of collaboration, vision, and determination. Their solution not only promises to deliver remarkable efficiency gains, but also sets a benchmark for inclusive technology design. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
