The event streaming platform can then take this message and route it to the appropriate downstream systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, since these events occur regularly, the event streaming platform continuously feeds the downstream systems new messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, let\u2019s say that a store uses a point-of-sale (PoS) system for managing transactions. Once a transaction occurs (and it\u2019s converted into an event), various details around that transaction are collected, including the purchase date, the transaction amount, the store\u2019s location, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This information is turned into a message that a streaming provider can collect; in turn, the streaming provider can pass the information along to relevant downstream systems, like an inventory system and an accounting system.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An enterprise automation platform can play an important role in event streaming use cases. In our example, the platform can transform transactions into events and then go on to feed these events to the streaming platform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, the enterprise automation platform can perform actions in downstream systems. For instance, you can leverage an enterprise automation platform\u2019s low\/no-code <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/think\/topics\/user-experience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UX<\/a> and pre-built connectors to easily connect with an ERP system like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workato.com\/integrations\/netsuite?ref=connector-streaming\">NetSuite<\/a>, a CRM like <a href=\"https:\/\/workato.com\/integrations\/salesforce?ref=connector-streaming\">Salesforce<\/a>, and an ITSM tool like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workato.com\/integrations\/zendesk?ref=connector-streaming\">Zendesk<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From there, you can build workflows where if an event in the streaming platform is a transaction, the enterprise automation platform creates a new transaction record in each of those applications.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s how it can all look, assuming you use Toast as your PoS, Workato as your enterprise automation platform, either Workato or Apache Kafka as your data streaming service, and NetSuite, Salesforce, and Zendesk as your downstream applications:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog2workato.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/C-pnKlUeVlnPVsfl54FFi4ST47QUPITn5SdbQIywn5RBt7oNR4SrU-fXTZkQQ09-6YqZcuT70RPf-KVvRO2CCQV8aQJf1Tznrad6HmCp0fWVmpwuRvcgg4EHOnV3QeqvpDn1KQYxP38-FLhUjaw.png\" alt=\"A screenshot of an event streaming use case for transactions from a PoS system\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <strong>File streaming<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s when a file streaming platform takes a certain amount of records from a file at a specific cadence and feeds those records to an enterprise automation platform.
