And how many integration and automation tools does the enterprise need?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These were just some of the questions that IT leaders Karl Mosgofian, CIO of Gainsight, and Shail Khiyara, a former CMO at Automation Anywhere and CXO at UiPath, tackled at their session\u2014from our <a href=\"https:\/\/discover.workato.com\/exec-automation-series\/p\/1\">Executive Automation Series<\/a>\u2014, \u201cPerspectives on Automation: RPA vs. CIO.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To help you walk away with the key insights they shared, we\u2019ll break down the session\u2019s top takeaways!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. RPA tools offer clear drawbacks&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the RPA software market\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2020-09-21-gartner-says-worldwide-robotic-process-automation-software-revenue-to-reach-nearly-2-billion-in-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">steady and significant growth<\/a>, the tool itself is fraught with issues. Here are just some of the drawbacks that Mosgofian and Khiyara highlighted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Consistently requires human intervention for a number of reasons, from bots breaking to processes needing to be improved<\/li><li>Isn\u2019t suited to move large volumes of data quickly due to its fragility&nbsp;<\/li><li>Can\u2019t integrate with existing integration and automation tools easily<\/li><li>Can fail to work appropriately when copy and pasting data that uses multiple character sets&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khiyara explained how an <a href=\"https:\/\/blog2workato.wpengine.com\/ipaas-complete-guide\/\">integration platform as a service<\/a> (iPaaS) can address some of these shortcomings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><span style=\"color:#67eadd\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>\u201cSolutions like iPaaS work really well in terms of speed, efficiency, (handling) large volumes of transactions, (and offering) extremely low to zero brittleness.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. The citizen developer movement is only making IT more valuable<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As employees across lines of business look to build their own integrations and automations, they may find themselves stuck on a variety of steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can include anything from the tool they should use (among potentially several options) to how they can build the integration or automation within a given tool. In addition, certain considerations might escape their attention\u2014like how their potential automation affects existing workflows.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mosgofian explained the latter issue further:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><span style=\"color:#67eadd\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>\u201cCitizen development is great, but everybody is solving their point problem. And they may very well solve it, but they may break something for someone else. So somebody somewhere has got to have the big picture.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That \u201csomebody\u201d Mosgofian refers to can be a designated team within IT. The team can be tasked with managing the organization\u2019s integration and automation platforms, as well as the organization\u2019s data architecture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workato.com\/the-connector\/benefits-of-rpa\/\">A look at the benefits that RPA provides <\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3.
