The People Who Power Workato: Robert Ekstrom

The People Who Power Workato, featuring Robert Ekstrom

Our latest installment of The People Who Power Workato features our recently-hired VP and GM in EMEA, Robert Ekstrom. He recently came to us from BluePrism, a leading RPA vendor, where he also led their EMEA business.

You can read on to learn more about Ekstrom, uncover why he decided to join our leadership team in EMEA, and find out what his experience has been like since joining.

1. Let’s start with an easy question: What do you do for fun?

I really enjoy sports and outdoor activities, especially road cycling, running, and hiking—all in the alps if I can help it. During the winter, I’m often skiing downhill and cross country, which is even more fun now that my 13 year old daughter has started to join me.

2. Where were you working prior to Workato? And what inspired you to join our team?

I was the SVP/GM for BluePrism in EMEA and led their EMEA business.

I was initially inspired by the powerful reviews that Workato’s customers have written on 3rd-party sites, like G2. I then got even more excited about the opportunity during the interview process. The people I met have extensive experience in the integration and automation space, as well as a powerful vision for where Workato could go. It was clear to me then (as it is today) that I needed to play a part in building Workato’s EMEA organization.

3. Can you tell me a bit more about your role at Workato? What do you typically do day-to-day?

I’m the VP & GM for Workato in EMEA. My typical day is a mix between internal meetings with colleagues in EMEA—where I provide coaching and support for all kinds of exciting activities, like navigating complex deals—and interviewing candidates. For context on the latter, we’re currently building out the EMEA team in order to cover and scale across the region, so I’m typically interviewing 2-5 candidates a day for various EMEA-based roles.

4. What excites you about the Workato platform?

Again, I think Workato’s customer feedback is absolutely amazing. I’ve worked at successful companies like ServiceNow and BluePrism, but I’ve never seen them—let alone other successful brands—receive the type of feedback that Workato’s platform garners. I’m also passionate about the opportunity to help EMEA-based organizations integrate and automate, whether it’s a new client that’s just getting started in their automation journey or it’s one that’s worked with us for a long time and that’s exploring new use cases with our platform.

5. What keeps you fired up about working at Workato (as a company)?

The people and culture at Workato is truly unique. Since joining a few months ago, I’ve found my colleagues in and outside of EMEA to be nothing but supportive and friendly. On top of that, everyone is incredibly motivated by the company’s mission of helping organizations transform their processes end-to-end through integrations and automations.
